The front fill-in was opened up after ply was removed. the 4" filler blocks were placed about 1.5" down from the front edge of the firebricks to enable some decorative terracota coloured tiles (same ones that had been used throughout the existing garden) to be used as the oven entrance slab, effectively once cemented in they were same level as firebrick floor
